Flying a Kite

Flying a Kite

Flying a Kite

I discovered a new talent that I was not aware that I had, or even thought that I would ever need. Turns out I can fly a kite with one hand, and take pictures with the other! My wife and I have decided that we need to take a kite with us on all future adventures.

Do you remember when you were a kid and flying a kite brought so much laughter and joy? Do you remember the rattle of the wind on the crinkly material and the way it zoomed back and forth like it had a life of its own? How you thought you were controlling it, but in reality the kite went where the wind told it too? Do you remember the way the kite begs for more string so it can climb higher and higher, ever pulling at the spool in your hands? Sometimes the kite turns toward the ground and seems to be racing for a collision with terra firma. You hold your breath and brace for the worst, then, at the last second some invisible force turns it back toward the sky and it races upward with incredible speed. You smile and laugh and run back and forth and then laugh some more? Well, turns out it has the same effect on 50 somethings too! My wife and I had such a blast flying a kite at 9600 ft, watching the butterfly dance among the clouds was a highlight of the trip.

Now, YOU go fly a kite!
